Weather in Istria in January: Temperature, Sea & Tips
January is the quietest month in southern Istria. Daytime temperatures usually reach around 10 °C, and on clear nights it can drop close to freezing. The sea is around 12 °C – swimming is only for the hardy. The sun shines for a good three hours a day on average; in between, low-pressure systems bring rain, and sometimes the cold, clear bora blows. In Pomer and Medulin many restaurants, beach bars and holiday resorts are closed, but supermarkets and some places to eat in Pula stay open. In return, you have the coast almost to yourself: pine-lined paths, empty coves and Pula without coach tours. In recent years, Pula's Advent programme has run into January. An evening by the fire in the holiday home is simply part of this month.
